The winner of Miss Japan has given back her title after a tabloid exposed her affair with a married man.

Karolina Shiino, 26, was crowned two weeks ago - but her win sparked public debate due to her Ukrainian heritage.

In its initial response to the report, pageant organisers defended Ms Shiino, but then accepted her title resignation after she confessed to knowing the man was married.
