Doral Police Shootout Leads to Two Officers Down and the Suspect Killed

Bodycam Release Date 2/6/2024 - The body camera footage reveals the fatal encounter that occurred on October 22, 2021, resulting in the death of Yordany Rodriguez Perez, a 25-year-old suspect, and the hospitalization of two officers. According to officials, the incident originated from a dispute between Rodriguez Perez and another individual, which escalated to Rodriguez Perez pursuing and firing shots at the other person. When the officers arrived at the scene, Rodriguez Perez had lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree in the vicinity of Northwest 25th Street and 92nd Avenue. As the two officers cautiously approached Rodriguez Perez's car with their firearms drawn, he unexpectedly opened fire on them. The recently released bodycam footage shows the arrival of a third officer, Daniel Vilarchao, in his marked Doral Police car. As Vilarchao attempts to exit his vehicle, he is immediately met with gunfire from Rodriguez Perez, prompting him to return fire. The video captures Vilarchao firing through the windshield, discharging his pistol from inside the car as bullets penetrate the vehicle. At one point, Vilarchao is struck and begins to bleed, with drops of blood visible in the footage. Despite his injury, Vilarchao manages to reload his weapon, exit the car, and once again discharge his handgun at the suspect. His hands are seen covered in blood as he utilizes his radio and reloads his weapon for a second time. Officials state that Rodriguez Perez, still armed, fled to the parking lot of a nearby business, while Vilarchao and another officer continued to engage him with gunfire until he was eventually struck and fell to the ground. Rodriguez Perez succumbed to his injuries, while Vilarchao sustained a facial injury that required surgery but ultimately made a full recovery. Officer Johnny Beautelus was also shot in the arm during the incident, and a bystander in a delivery truck was struck in the leg by a bullet.
