King Charles III Diagnosed with Cancer Following Prostate Procedure

Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer subsequent to a procedure for an enlarged prostate. The palace did not specify the type or severity of the cancer. Although the exact form remains undisclosed, it was clarified that Charles does not have prostate cancer.

Enlarged prostate, prevalent among older men, affects around 80% of males over 70, as per Yale Medicine. Symptoms like urinary difficulties or nocturia may prompt a transurethral resection to remove excess prostate tissue, improving urination.

Dr. William Oh explained the procedure aims to alleviate urinary blockages caused by the enlarged prostate. During the process, a scope inserted through the urethra enables visual inspection, potentially revealing cancerous growths in nearby regions like the bladder or urethra, as outlined by Dr. Christian Pavlovich. Additionally, detection of bloody urine may indicate kidney or ureter cancer, noted Dr. Justin Friedlander.
