I am Nebuchadnezzar II, a name that resonates through the annals of history as the king who ruled over the mighty Neo-Babylonian Empire from 605 BC to 562 BC. My reign is marked by grandeur, conquests, and the construction of one of the most renowned wonders of the ancient world, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

My ascent to the throne was not without challenge. I inherited a kingdom that had seen its share of tumult. However, I wasted no time in solidifying my rule. I led my armies on victorious campaigns, expanding the empire's boundaries and asserting its dominance in the region. One of my most significant conquests was the capture of Jerusalem in 597 BC, which resulted in the exile of many Judeans to Babylon, an event chronicled in the Bible.

But perhaps what I'm best known for is my architectural prowess. I commissioned the construction of the Hanging Gardens, a lush paradise of terraced greenery in the heart of Babylon. It was a testament to my love for my queen, Amytis of Media, who longed for the green hills and valleys of her homeland. The Hanging Gardens, with its cascading plants and advanced irrigation systems, became one of the ancient wonders, a marvel admired by all who beheld it.

Yet, my story is not without its complexities. My rule, while marked by great achievements, was also marred by moments of personal challenge. According to the Bible, I suffered a period of madness, a humbling experience that brought me closer to the divine. This period is known as "Nebuchadnezzar's Madness" and is a significant part of my story.

My reign ended in 562 BC, but my legacy endures through the annals of history. The Neo-Babylonian Empire under my rule was a formidable force in the ancient world, leaving an indelible mark on the history of Mesopotamia and beyond. My story serves as a reminder that even the mightiest rulers are shaped by their ambitions, conquests, and moments of reflection.
