Chile forest fires kill at least 64 as president says death toll is likely to rise

President Gabriel Boric disclosed on Sunday afternoon that at least 64 individuals have lost their lives due to the ongoing forest fires in Chile, emphasizing that the casualty count is anticipated to increase.

Interior Minister Carolina Tohá, during a Saturday news conference, reported 92 active fires covering over 43,000 hectares, with an additional update on Sunday stating that more than 1,350 homes have already been impacted.

President Boric has declared two days of national mourning for the victims, extending condolences to those who have lost loved ones and property, NBC News reported.
