GEST golf cart shuttles add to transit options Downtown -- and this one's free

Options for getting around Downtown and Over-the-Rhine continue to expand with the launch of an unconventional new transit service this month. Adding to the transportation buffet of various parking valet services, public transit -- including the streetcar -- bike share, pedicabs and Segway rentals, GEST brought golf carts into the Downtown traffic mix. Yes, golf carts. They aren't your typical golf carts, however, and GEST isn't your typical form of transit, either. For one thing, it's free to ride. In order for a motor vehicle to be street-legal, many things have to be in place: a U.S. Department of Transportation-approved windshield, windshield wipers, headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals and a horn.
