To better understand why Dr. Hampton emphasizes metabolic health, we need to first define what it means. Metabolic health encompasses various factors, including blood pressure, blood sugar, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, waist circumference, and overall body composition. These markers provide crucial insights into an individual's overall health and risk for chronic diseases. For example, high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar levels, and unhealthy cholesterol levels are all indicators of poor metabolic health.

Dr. Hampton explains that metabolic health is the best return on investment for both patients and doctors. Approximately 80% of all chronic medical conditions are rooted in poor metabolic health, and by addressing these underlying issues, doctors can improve patients' overall health and well-being. Instead of simply managing diseases, they can help patients reverse their conditions and achieve long-lasting health.

➡️Transitioning to Metabolic Health Care

Dr. Hampton shares that he used to practice in a traditional health system, where the focus was on managing diseases rather than preventing them or achieving optimal health. However, after gaining additional training in nutrition, functional medicine, and obesity medicine, he realized the importance of addressing the root causes of chronic conditions. He recognized that diet and lifestyle factors, such as nutrition, stress management, and quality sleep, play a significant role in metabolic health.

As a metabolic health doctor, Dr. Hampton now aims to educate his patients about the importance of these lifestyle factors and empower them to make informed choices. He believes that low-carb keto and carnivore diets can be effective options for weight loss and improving metabolic health. However, he emphasizes the need to consider other factors, such as stress, sleep, and emotional well-being, to achieve holistic health.
