Officials with the Grand Rapids Public Museum say they are in full compliance

Those changes are meant to protect tribes from being exploited and include the need of getting consent from descendants or tribes to have objects on display. The museum says they have been in compliance since it was first enacted in 1990 and continue to work with tribes to stay that way. A new exhibit on Native American tribes will open at the GRPM in 2026.
