In 1136, a monk called Geoffrey of Monmouth published a book in Latin, saying it was a translation of an old book in Welsh. Its English translation is 'The History of the Kings of Britain'. Geoffrey's book was a best-seller for its times. More importantly, it introduced the world to 'King Arthur'. Since then, debate has raged whether there was, indeed an old book or if he made up the story of Britain's ancient kings.

In this episode, we are going to explore the world in which Geoffrey lived. In doing so, we discover that his motives for translating the book were probably political. For not only was the old book genuine but his translation was done for a very specific reason.

Adrian Gilbert has written many or co-authored books, most of them in the genres of Ancient Mysteries and Forgotten History. Among these are several best-sellers, including 'The Orion Mystery', 'The Mayan Prophecies', 'Signs in the Sky' and 'The Blood of Avalon'.
