Creating a homemade chicken food and water pot using PVC pipes and plastic bottles can be a cost-effective and practical DIY project. Here's a simple guide to help you make both a food dispenser and a waterer for your chickens:
Materials Needed:
PVC pipes (1-2 inches in diameter)
PVC elbows and T-joints
PVC end caps
Plastic bottles (large enough for food and water)
PVC cement
Drill with hole saw attachments
Sandpaper
Saw
Chicken feed and water
Chicken Food Dispenser:
Step 1: Measure and Cut PVC Pipes
Measure and mark the length for your food dispenser. It should be long enough to hold a good amount of chicken feed.
Use a saw to cut the PVC pipe to the desired length.
Step 2: Attach Elbows and End Caps
Attach PVC elbows to both ends of the pipe.
Glue PVC end caps to the elbows.
Step 3: Drill Holes for Feeding
Use the drill with a hole saw attachment to create openings along the length of the pipe.
Sand the edges of the holes to make them smooth and safe for the chickens.
Step 4: Fill with Chicken Feed
Fill the PVC pipe with chicken feed.
Mount the food dispenser at a convenient height for your chickens.
Chicken Waterer:
Step 1: Measure and Cut PVC Pipes
Measure and mark the length for your waterer. It should be long enough to hold a large plastic bottle filled with water.
Use a saw to cut the PVC pipe to the desired length.
Step 2: Attach T-Joint and End Caps
Attach a PVC T-joint to the bottom of the pipe.
Glue PVC end caps to the open ends of the T-joint.
Step 3: Prepare the Plastic Bottle
Cut the bottom of a large plastic bottle.
Screw the bottle onto the T-joint.
Step 4: Drill Holes for Water Dispensing
Use the drill with a hole saw attachment to create openings on the bottom side of the PVC pipe.
Sand the edges to ensure they are smooth.
Step 5: Fill with Water
Fill the plastic bottle with water.
Mount the waterer at an appropriate height for your chickens.
Ensure that both the food dispenser and waterer are securely attached to prevent tipping. Regularly clean and refill them to keep your chickens healthy and happy. Adjust the size of the PVC pipes and bottles based on the number of chickens you have and their specific needs.
