While after most elections, the faction winning the most seats would happily take all the power for itself, France’s situation following the 1871 election made that difficult.
After Jules Dufaure assumed the premiership on the 19th of February, the first order of business was passing the Treaty of Versailles that would put an end to the Franco-Prussian war.
