Boulder police release dashcam video of a dog attacking an officer

Boulder police have released a video from a Sunday Boulder dog attack that occurred in the 3200 block of Palo Parkway.

The video depicts the dog involved in the attack running toward a police officer during an ongoing attack on a man.

According to a press release, at 8:17 a.m. Sunday, the dog began attacking the victim inside the home before the attack moved outside. According to the release, the victim was trying to hold onto the dog so it would not attack anyone else. A neighbor then stabbed the dog twice with kitchen knives before officers arrived, but the dog kept biting the victim.

According to a release, when police arrived on the scene, they saw a dog mauling a man and tried to use a Taser to subdue it. The Taser was ineffective, and then the dog began attacking the officer, according to the release. The officer fired his gun, striking the dog several times, and officers began putting tourniquets on the man. Police said the dog then got up and charged at the officers a second time before being shot again.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition but has been stabilized.

The dog was euthanized by injection due to the severity of its injuries before being transported to the Colorado State University’s veterinary hospital for a necropsy to “rule out rabies, a brain tumor, accidental toxin ingestion and other possible environmental causes for the attack.” The findings of the necropsy were not released by police.

The victim’s family told the Daily Camera on Monday that the dog had been undergoing health problems and believe the attack is due to an internal medical issue.
