Jeremiah 13-15 “Hubris Goes Before the Fall” 1/10/2024

God is going to use an object lesson here…He is going to have Jeremiah use something the people of Israel would have been familiar with to teach them a lesson.
Jesus taught this way frequently throughout His ministry.
Like when He washed the feet of the disciples to demonstrate servant-hood.
Or when He used the water that came from the well to teach the Samaritan woman about life-giving water.
Jeremiah is instructed by God to purchase a linen (the ESV says loincloth) but a better translation is a sash or belt.
The principle of the linen belt is that it would be worn close to your body.
It would have been worn by the priests.
He was then instructed to take this linen belt to the Euphrates River.
BTW wasn’t around the corner…it was about 900 miles away…and it would have taken three to four months to go up and back twice.
So, the first time God instructs him to go to the Euphrates River and hide the linen belt in the cleft of a rock.
