Ocala Police Have a Shootout With an Armed Man

Bodycam Release Date 1/25/2024 Ocala, FL - On 6/3/2023, Robert Francisco Gonzalez, a 41-year-old man, tragically lost his life after an encounter with the Ocala Police Department (OPD). The incident unfolded when OPD received a distressing call from Gonzalez's mother, expressing concerns about her son's suicidal threats. Providing crucial details about Gonzalez's appearance, location, and vehicle, she sought immediate assistance. In response, officers swiftly arrived at the parking lot of the Home Depot store in Ocala, situated near Interstate 75. Approaching Gonzalez's vehicle on foot, the officers engaged in dialogue, attempting to defuse the tense situation. However, despite their efforts, Gonzalez brandished a handgun and fired at the officers. In self-defense, the officers returned fire, tragically resulting in Gonzalez's demise. Thankfully, none of the officers sustained any injuries during the incident.
