First Palworld Pokemon Mod Taken Down by Nintendo. Nintendo has swiftly taken action against the first Pokemon mod created for Palworld. The mod, which introduces Pokemon creatures and characters to Palworld, was teased by its creator, Australian YouTuber ToastedShoes, on January 22. Given the parody nature of Palworld, incorporating genuine pocket monsters into the survival game was inevitable. ToastedShoes, working quickly, developed a prototype mod that replaced Palworld's Pals with Pokemon.

However, Nintendo promptly responded to ToastedShoes' initial teaser by issuing a DMCA takedown notice, resulting in the removal of the content from Twitter. Undeterred, ToastedShoes proceeded to showcase the mod in a 16-minute YouTube video on January 23. Despite the risk of copyright strikes and potential account termination under YouTube's terms of use, ToastedShoes received praise from followers for his bold stance amid the Palworld vs. Pokemon controversy.

Despite the controversy, ToastedShoes has announced on Twitter that his Pokemon mod won't be released, at least for the time being. He expressed a desire to "tread lightly" due to Nintendo's swift reaction to the initial Twitter post. While Palworld itself has not encountered legal issues with Nintendo or other Pokemon IP holders, the future remains uncertain. The Pokemon Company's former Chief Legal Officer labeled Palworld as "ripoff nonsense," acknowledging the potential for copyright infringement, but whether legal action will follow is yet to be determined.
