👉🏼Did you know that there is a specialized nursing field dedicated to everything intravenous (IV)? While all registered nurses can start and manage IVs, it can be a complex process that demands additional skills and training.

👉🏼National IV Nurse Day is a time to appreciate these nurses who ensure IV use is effective and as painless as possible.

👉🏼Intravenous therapy has a long history, tracing back to the 17th century when blood transfusion science emerged. Throughout the 20th century, doctors and medical students primarily handled IVs. However, in the 1950s and 1960s, nurses began training to specialize in this field.

👉🏼Nowadays, IV infusion nurses must first become registered nurses and then obtain a special intravenous certification. Their duties include managing various catheters and infusion devices. 👏🏼💯

👉🏼In 1980, the United States House of Representatives recognized the importance of these healthcare workers and declared January 25th as National IV Nurse Day. Let's celebrate and honor their invaluable contributions to our well-being!
