Sig Romeo 7 - The Preparedness Dream Red Dot

The sig romeo 7 is the ultimate indestructible red dot if you're on a budget. It is heavy but it is tough. In the gun community it is known as the Aimpoint CompM4 we have at home. They get compared a lot because of the similar look and feature set. Both are insanely rugged and durable. However, the Comp M4 costs nearly $1k, whereas the sig romeo 7 costs $200.

This is why you would buy the Romeo 7 over much lighter red dots. You would buy this is if you want extreme durability and easy availability of batteries. The Romeo 7 is powered by simple AAs, so you just have to raid some TV remotes to keep this running. If preparedness is your thing, this is the dream optic.

This thing is heavy at 12.5 ounces, but that is the reason you are buying this. It is extremely over built.

In addition to being crazy durable, it is also waterproof and fog proof up to IPX-7 rating. IPX-7 means it is rated to survive in 3 feet of water for 30 minutes. So this thing won't crap out on you in a heavy rain.

The reticle is a 2MOA reticle with a 30mm field of view. That is a very reasonably wide window with a tight reticle, making it ideal for shooting accurately within 200 yards. Additionally, pairing it with a magnifier can help the optic reach out a little further.

Speaking of magnifiers, the included QD mount system has a cowitness that is ideal for usage with magnifiers. The quick disconnect mount is also very solid, exactly what you'd expect from Sig.

The dial on the Romeo7 impacts reticle brightness, the control is very tactile. As are the actual windage and elevation turrets.

As touched on earlier, the optic is powered by an extremely common AA battery. Although you probably won't need it because the Motion Activated Illumination feature, or shake awake as most people call it, will shut the optic off when not in usage.

Sig brags of the low dispersion glass lens, and the glass really is clear.

I've had the optic for about 2 years and its been on all manner of rifles. It has held up to pretty heavy recoil extremely well. Because of the QD system this is the first optic I throw on most rifles when I do reviews.

Are there better red dots out there? Absolutely. Are there more rugged, well built red dots for this budget price of $200 out there. No, I can't think of a single one. The romeo 7 is in a class of its own.

Ultimately the Romeo 7 is basic, but its a very good red dot for the money and you can't go wrong with it.
