Thailand's constitutional court has cleared former prime ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat of violating election rules.

He was accused of holding shares in a media company that was prohibited by Thai election law but argued that the outlet had become defunct years ago.

His Move Forward Party won the most seats in last year's election but failed to form a government.

He will now retain his seat in parliament.
