Chelsea Manning Releases First Senatorial Candidate Video

"We live in trying times, times of fear, of suppression, of hate," Manning says in the campaign ad, with images of protesters clashing with police and young men marching with tiki torches flashing across the screen.

"We don't need more or better leaders," Manning says. "We need someone willing to fight."

"We need to stop asking them to give us our rights. They won't support us. They won't compromise," Manning continues as video of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) meeting with Trump at the White House play on screen. The video also shows Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) and Vice President Mike Pence in the room.

"We need to stop expecting that our systems will somehow fix themselves," Manning says. "We need to actually take the reins of power from them. We need to challenge them at every level. We need to fix this."

"We don't need them anymore," she concludes. "We can do better."
