This is not the sort of item that I normally review, but this stage light from SHEHDS is something worth looking at.

In the box, you receive the LED lighting panel itself, together with a wall mounting kit, mains power plug, pass-through power cable, a wall mounting bracket set, and a user guide. Build quality throughout is heavy duty and this unit is clearly designed for professional stage use. The only letdown is the included user guide, which is poorly printed, hard to read and very technical. A far better looking user guide, albeit poorly translated and just as impenetrable can be downloaded from the SHEHDS website.

So what is it?

This is a heavy duty, professional grade Wall Wash lighting panel. The 98 cm unit is made from metal, super robust and clearly designed for stage shows, clubs, discos or high end parties. Along the leading edge has 18 LED separate lighting units outputting the whole RGBWA+UV light range. It has the capability for four channel DMX computer control, with 29/ 119 DMX channels in total. It can be linked to other lighting units but comes with a range of programmable lighting patterns built in which can be configured using the control panel on the back. So it will work as a stand alone unit.

There are eight function effects which can be programmed using the keypad and control panel on the rear of the unit. The first two digits represent the control codes for each function and the last two represent the speed or other parameters that are applied to it. I think the unit comes into its own when DMX controlled in conjunction with other lighting units for a full stage effect.

What is DMX?

Digital Multiplex or DMX is a protocol used to control devices such as lights or fog machines. The signal is unidirectional, meaning it only travels in one direction; from the controller or first light, all the way to the last. In its most basic form, DMX is just a protocol for lights, like how MIDI is for keyboards or DAW controllers.

The lighting unit looks fantastic when working and is very powerful giving colour washes, strobing and patterns to rooms and halls of any size. When used properly, and I am still getting used to it, it can only be described as spectacular.

If you need a pro grade lighting unit then this would be a great buy. for less than $180.
