TONIGHT: How To Change Your Mind 1 & 2 🎬

Based on his book How To Change Your Mind, author Michael Pollan’s 4-part docuseries examines the consciousness-expanding possibilities of various psychedelics and how researchers, psychologists, medical personnel are finding new uses for them. He also personally partakes in all of the psychedelics he examines — LSD and Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) in parts 1 & 2, then MDMA and Mescaline in parts 3 & 4 — and discusses how each effects him.
Psychedelics started being banned back in 1966 on a State by State basis, reaching a nationwide prohibition in the early ’70s. This effectively halted the multitude of research that was taking place across North America. Research into the uses and affects didn’t pick up again until the 2000s.
Pollan does venture to make a point in this series, which is that psychedelics have been shown over time to be beneficial if used in a supervised way, which is not a whole heck of a lot different from other drugs that have been put under the “controlled substance” banner over the past half-century.
Pollan not only talks to people doing research into the uses of various psychedelics for people with illness, anxiety and depression, but he also talks with fellow author Ayelet Waldman, who found a new lease on her chaotic existence through microdosing.
Pollan makes a pretty effective case, especially when he couches it in the idea of government overreach during its most intense “war on drugs” years. It’s not like their prohibition made LSD and other psychedelics harder to find for people who wanted them; it basically halted most of the research. Imagine where things would be if there was 50 more years of research to draw from.

How To Change Your Mind 4 part series will be aired in 2 Double Feature Presentations. 🤩
