The loss put a damper on another record-setting performance by Lions' running back Barry Sanders, who moved into third place on the NFL's all-time rushing chart with 12,828 career rushing yards, surpassing Tony Dorsett (12,739 yards). Sanders also became the first player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in nine consecutive seasons and his 105 yards marked his eighth straight 100-yard road game, establishing another NFL record. Lions' QB Scott Mitchell left the game in the second quarter with a pulled hamstring, leaving backup Frank Reich and third-stringer Matt Blundin (only pass was the INT return by Pounds) to operate from quarterback the rest of the game.
