Runs 2:05 | The Lions lost its second game in a row to begin the 1998 campaign in heart-wrenching fashion as Cincinnati CB Corey Sawyer returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown 2:06 into overtime to give the Bengals a 34-28 win. It was the Lions' third consecutive overtime loss, and marked only the second time in the last eight years that Detroit had lost its home opener. The ill-timed interception would be Scott Mitchell’s last as a Lion. The following Monday Mitchell would be relegated to third on the depth chart, and at seasons end he would be released. Barry Sanders was spectacular running for 185-yards on 26 carries. He had scoring runs of 67, 2, and 5 yards.
