I - What on earth is not all happening at the same time?

In Blindspot 96, and 97 we aim to take a step back, and look at some intriguing developments at a macro-geopolitical scale. The pace and scale of conflicts emerging, or where decades old festering fights get blown to new proportions of barbarity, eg Gaza, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Libya, to name but a few, seems staggeringly overwhelming. Better to tune out the bad news, but, the real bad news is that inside the bad news horrendously many overt, covert, and weird blindspots can hide.

From Africa’s west coast on the Atlantic Ocean, and the beginning of the Sahel, through Niger, Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Chad, Sudan, and Ethiopia, into the Red Sea towards the Persian Gulf, then northwards to Yemen, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq - and even further north across the Black Sea to Crimea and Ukraine we see one thing, integrated conflicts, escalation and human tragedies unfolding.

By looking at some of the details and blindspots hidden in these macro patterns of conflict it becomes evident that the world system is being altered on a daily basis, in front of our eyes. In the same way as a genocide on the people of Palestine is being perpetrated, and broadcast live for the world to see. While the bombs continue to knock out Gaza’s infrastructure, children, water, hospitals, electricity, animals, and entire family lines, parades of lawyers present their points to a panel of judges in a global court with hard to establish jurisdiction, not even to talk about enforceable decisions.
