Video released of DUI stop leads to police chase, shots fired in Weber County on New Year's Eve

What began as a traffic stop for a possible DUI in Weber County ended as a police chase and shots being fired by officers on New Year's Eve.

Carter Edelman, 19, was arrested in connection to the incident and faces multiple charges including two counts of aggravated assault, DUI and failing to stop for police.

Just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, officers responded to a potential DUI in the lower Uintah area, a press release reads.

A traffic stop was initiated near Riverdale Road and 1900 West in Roy City, but the vehicle drove away from police officers.

A pursuit was initiated, extending through Roy and Riverdale cities and occupying multiple officers across agencies.

"During the pursuit, the suspect deliberately collided with two police vehicles," officials stated.

Arresting documents detail what led to the collision.

"At one point, the BMW entered a cul-de-sac, and officers tried to block the road," court documents read. "Despite efforts, the BMW collided with a marked and occupied law enforcement vehicle, causing damage to its front right side. The BMW continued to evade law enforcement, reaching speeds near 100 MPH."

Eventually, officers shot at the suspect's vehicle and the pursuit came to an end, officials reported to FOX 13 News.

Officials said minor injuries were sustained by law enforcement and the suspect, although everyone was cleared medically shortly after.

A female occupant was also inside the car, arresting documents state. She told police she attended a party at Edelman's residence and saw him drink "multiple alcoholic beverages."

When Edelman and the woman saw police lights behind their vehicle, the woman tried to exit the vehicle, however, arrest documents detail Edelman sped up and said "you don't have time."

The investigation was handed over to the Weber County Attorney's Office Critical Incident Team.

Edelman was arrested and is being held in the Weber County Jail with no bail.
