Both YouTube and Google have laid off 1,100 employees between the two tech giants in a bid to reinvest funding. TechCrunch reported that a YouTube spokesperson confirmed the news that 100 of its staff were given a 60-day notice of termination. Mary Ellen Coe, YouTube’s chief business officer, revealed that the cuts were part of restructuring changes, as reported by Tubefilter. YouTube has 7,173 employees worldwide and those affected are free to apply for other positions at the company. This comes after Google laid off 1,000 workers across departments such as engineering, services and voice-activated product Google Assistant. "As we’ve said, we’re responsibly investing in our company’s biggest priorities and the significant opportunities ahead. To best position us for these opportunities, a number of our teams made changes to become more efficient and work better," a Google spokesperson told the New York Times.

They added, “Some teams are continuing to make these kinds of organizational changes, which include some role eliminations globally."
