As wintry temperatures gripped the nation’s capital on Monday, an intrepid reporter asked a commuter about her experience navigating the district in the snow. “We need at least 10 to 15 inches,” an unnamed woman said to a local news channel. WUSA9 reporter Lorenzo Hall laughed, “Oh, c’mon!” She went on to explain why she wanted more snow in her commute. “It will slow people down,” she explained. She added, “Just think: Carjackings will probably go to zero because they can’t run!” According to the Metropolitan Police Department, carjackings involving guns are up by 74%, including an overwhelming amount of arrests of juvenile carjackers, which has increased by 50%. In 2023, violent crime also increased by 39%. Carjackings in Washington, D.C., nearly doubled last year. In December, 10 teenagers were charged in alleged armed carjacking rings in both the district and Maryland.
