🇷🇺❣️The Divnogorye Assumption Monastery is a cavernous men's monastery of the Voronezh Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, located in the locality of Divnogorye, in the Liskinsky District of the Voronezh Region.

❣️Cavernous monasteries are a rather uncommon occurrence in Central Russia.

🛐 The Divnogorye Male Monastery of the Holy Assumption, founded in the middle of the 17th century, is part of the notable cavernous chalk structures of the Don region.

❣️According to local historians, the first monks settled here together with the Ukrainian Cossacks, who were ordered to protect the nearby Ostrogozhsk fortress. Iosaf and Xenophons, this is how the monks and creators of the first caves were called, who excavated in a high cliff on the Don River, in one of the chalk pillars.

❣️The church was soon consecrated, and the monastery was named Assunção, in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God.

❣️Later, above-ground buildings were added, and next to the cavernous church, on another chalk pillar, craftsmen carved a bell tower.
