Shye Klein Weinstein: Israel-Palestine history is ‘much more nuanced’ than American youth understand

Shye Klein Weinstein, a survivor of the October 7 Hamas attack on the Nova Music Festival, says young Americans view Israel and Palestine’s history through a black-and-white lens. “They see Israelis as a predominately white people oppressing the Palestinians who are mostly colored, which is not the case,” Weinstein explains. “80% of Israel, the population is not white. Most Israelis are not Ashkenazis or of European descent. They disregard the fact that there are Yemeni and Ethiopian Israelis and Jews and they just see it as a very black-and-white matter when that’s not the case, it’s much more nuanced than that.”
