Finding an injured wild animal can be really heartbreaking. Some people try to take them back home, nurse them back to health and release them back where they were found and that can be one of the most rewarding experiences a person can get.

A lot of wildlife shelters advise civilians not to take matters into their own hands when it comes to wild animals, but oftentimes folk still take these critters home and most of the times, their attempt is successful. In this case, however, everything went well, until it suddenly didn’t.

A young man in Collierville, Tennessee, USA found an injured little squirrel and decided to try and rehabilitate it on his own. His parent’s thought it might be a good idea, wo they all took care of the poor thing. When thing started looking for the better, they decided to take their little house guest back home where it belonged. Their cat Tom had other plans.

Here’s what the young man’s mom had to say about that day: "My son brought home an injured squirrel to see if we could rehab and release. we kept just few days and he made some improvement. we deceided [sic] to go ahead and try to release. Since my son was not home I was making video for him. My son is Hoss. We had no idea our cat Tom was outside at the time of release. Once Tom got the squirrel he did immediately drop him at our door. Tom the cat did not kill the squirrel. He lived a few more days and then died from what ever he was sick from originally."

That cat really did take us by surprise!
