Ustad Rashid Khan is no more. I cannot explain exactly what place and status Rashid Khan holds in Hindustani music, but I can feel the void left by his departure among millions of listeners. He was in the hospital for several days, but everyone took notice only after he left. The reason is that there is very little space for such artists in Hindi journalism, they are used a lot. His music is used a lot but the death of such a great artist becomes a small news for them. This complaint is not new, it was just told to show that Hindi journalism does not care about anything. But there should be a discussion on how the world of media and politics remains so untouched by such sad news. He relieves the listeners from all the sorrows, but when the same Rashid Khan leaves this world and creates desolation again, then who will wait with this sorrow… who will come after his departure… goodbye… ...
नहीं रहे उस्ताद राशिद ख़ान। राशिद ख़ाँ का हिंदुस्तानी संगीत में क्या स्थान और रूतबा है, इसकी ठीक-ठीक व्याख्या मैं नहीं कर सकता लेकिन उनके जाने से लाखों सुनने वालों में जो ख़ालीपन आया है, उसे महसूस कर रहा हूं। वे कई दिनों से अस्पताल में थे, लेकिन उनके जाने के बाद ही सबको ध्यान आया। वजह यह है कि हिन्दी पत्रकारिता में ऐसे फनकारों के लिए जगह बहुत कम है, उनका इस्तेमाल बहुत है। उनके संगीत का ख़ूब इस्तेमाल होता है मगर इतने बड़े फ़नकार का जाना उनके लिए छोटी खबर बन जाती है। यह शिकायत कोई नई नहीं है, बस बताने के लिए बताया कि हिन्दी पत्रकारिता को किसी बात से फर्क नहीं पड़ता है। मगर इस पर बात होनी चाहिए कि मीडिया और राजनीति का जगत इस तरह की दुखद खबरों से भी कैसे इतना अछूता रह जाता है।
वे सुनने वालों को तमाम दुखों से उबार लेते हैं, मगर जब वही राशिद ख़ान इस दुनिया को छोड़ फिर से वीरानी पैदा कर जाते हैं तो इस दुख के साथ किसका इंतज़ार किया जाएगा…उनके जाने के बाद अब कौन आएगा….अलविदा ….
