"I'd Love To Change the World," written by Alvin Lee, was Ten Years After's only top 40 hit stalling at the no. 40 position in 1971, remaining on the chart for 12 weeks (Whitburn, 2013). Lee said "I'm just saying the world does need changing, . . . I'd love to do it, but I haven't got the talent. I don't think I'm a world changer" (songfacts, 2024). The lyrics focused on the cultural aspects of the 1960s and 1970 but seems very much a reflection of the world today; Lee was very appreciative of the reception of the song saying “I am so glad that I wrote a song that people still remember and still want to listen to, 30 years later” C. Platt, oldtimemusic, Oct. 24, 2023).

Lyrics:

Everywhere there's freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
'Til there are no rich no more?

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
