China slams US for praising Taiwan’s newly elected pro-independence leader

China has accused the US of meddling in its internal affairs, after Washington congratulated the newly elected, regional leader of Taiwan, who is seeking independence from Beijing. China says that America must respect its own commitments under the one-China policy.
