Why REsident Evil (2002) Inspired a Billion Dollar Film Franchise

Paul W.S. Anderson's 2002 adaptation of the iconic REsident Evil games is trashed as a lackluster attempt at bringing the survival horror genre to the big screen. While it certainly has plenty of flaws, it's by and large a misunderstood project. It started with the right vision, but it faltered in execution.
