One Batter, Four Flavors

Strawberry banana bread plus three more flavors out of one basic banana bread recipe with four ways to add flavors. We make strawberry banana bread, chocolate banana bread with chocolate chips to make double chocolate banana bread, regular cinnamon banana bread, and banana split banana bread. The recipe below is my great grandmother's recipe from 1953 that we use for the main banana bread cake recipe.

Banana Bread Recipe for one large loaf. (We doubled this recipe. )

1/2 C. Shortening
2 Large Eggs
1/2 C. Sugar
1 1/2 C. Ripe mashed bananas
2 C. Sifted Cake Flour (All Purpose can be used)
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Double Acting Baking Powder
1/4 tsp. Salt

For Strawberry banana bread add 1/2 Cup of Strawberry Jam

For Double chocolate banana bread add 3 T Cocoa Powder and 1/4 to 1/2 Bag of semi- sweet chocolate chips.

For Spiced Banana bread add 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, 1/4 tsp. Allspice, and 1/4 cup brown sugar.
