After the snow/rain event, temperatures dropped in the late afternoon and settled around -6 C. That was enough to put a cap of about 1 1/2 inches on the slush water mix that had pooled on top of our 5 inches of clear ice. The upcoming cold is welcome as that layer of frozen slush will insulate the clear ice below. And, 20-30 cms of snow on Friday night will only create more insulation. Despite this, it should be cold enough to gain more clear ice each day for at least the next week or so.
