I Was Told to NOT Love CHINA... Yet Here I Am

I’ll be honest, before visiting China, I was warned by friends and family that I should NOT fall in love with this complicated country. As an Australian, I was cautioned about the pollution and advised to be wary of the Communist regime that governs China. Yet here I am, cruising along the canals of Suzhou on a gondola and finding myself falling in love with the enduring history and mesmerizing beauty of this ancient water town known as the Venice of the East. With its vast network of stone bridges crossing over rivers and canals, Suzhou sweeps me away to another time. As the sunset casts golden hues along historic Pingjiang Road, and I taste the sweet songpyeon cakes that locals gift me with smiles, my heart fills. How can I not love China when the people welcome me with such warmth and open arms? I was warned not to, but I am falling in love with China all the same. Join me on this journey through the Venice of the East to experience the magic for yourself. And then tell me again that I should not let this complicated yet captivating country capture my heart.
