Bloodborne - How to beat Blood-starved Beast

The Blood-starved Beast is an optional boss in the first portion of the game. It is positioned in a warned down cathedral at the bottom of Old Yharnam. It can be very difficult to take on as it's attacks have great reach and the hit boxes are large. But equipped with proper items, it can be eliminated fairly quick!

Tips on how to beat the Blood-starved Beast

Antidote

Phase 1
- Apply the Fire Paper about the time the health bar appears on the screen
- Throw Blood Cocktail in the corner and wait for Blood-starved beast to react
- With Fire Paper applied, swing away pony boy!
- It can be staggered so be sure to listen to the prompt in order to land a visceral (not shown in video)

Phase 2
Attacks become much more sporadic and if struck, will instantly apply Poison.
- Be sure to have the Antidote ready to use if struck; the poison drains quickly and I doubt at this point in the game you have much Health
- Ensure the Fire Paper is maintained; your windows to strike decreases so you want to make them count
- Blood Cocktails work but movement is quicker so find your opening closes fast

Phase 3
Biggest thing with Phase 3 is a Poison Aura surrounding the Beast. When you are in striking distance, Poison build up starts to occur. This partner with Instant Poison is struck, I'll re-emphasize the Antidotes
- Do not try to go for full combos in this phase
- Practice get in, strike once or twice, and get out
- Don't be afraid to roll towards the Beast to evade and set yourself up for a close hit
- Blood cocktails have little effect; they work but not the best strategy at this Phase (leave a comment if you disagree)
