Bushnell TRS-26 : Ultra Rugged Compact Red Dot

The bushnell TRS-26 is a rugged red dot. It is similar to the cheaper TRS-25, but has some pretty big upgrades being the next tier up.

The TRS-26 is built a bit more rugged than the TRS-25. The TRS-26 is IPX-7 rated, whereas the TRS-25 is just listed as being waterproof.

With the pic rail adapter, it weights 2 ounces more than the TRS-25, although it still comes in at an incredibly light weight 5.7 ounces. It is still extremely compact, measuring only 2.756 inches in length.

Besides the upgrades to make it a litle more rugged, the TRS-26 also features some quality of life upgrades. It has tactile push button controls that make it a little easier to operate than the dial based controls on the TRS-26.

The optic features a 12 hour auto off timer, although it does not have shake awake. Instead button press will re-activate the optic., Overall this should help with battery life. Both optics take a CR-2032 battery.

The turret caps are a bit nicer on the TRS-26, although both models have great tactile turrets for adjustment.

The biggest draw of the TRS-26 to me personally is the fact that it has a wider lens at 26mm versus the TRS-25 20mm. The extra field of view is really nice for a reflex sight that isn't much bigger overall than the TRS-25.

To put it simply, the TRS-26 is like the TRS-25, but built to be much tougher.

So would I recommend this optic? I think for target shooting and for outdoors activities like hunting, this optic is a really great choice. For home defense i would probably go with something else, simply because the push button activation after 12 hours is not as ideal as a shake awake feature. However, if you want something a bit beefier than the TRS-25, than the Bushnell TRS-26 isn't a bad option.

Sometimes you can get them on sale pretty cheap with rebate. I beleive after rebate, I paid about $60 for mine. At that price it is a steal. However, at the full price MSRP of $149.99, I would buy the Sig Romeo 5 or a Holosun 403C.

That said, the bushnell TRS-26 is a descent quality optic and you could do a lot worse if you catch it on sale.
