A baby elephant which was separated from its herd in southern India was reunited with its mother on Tuesday (January 2), park officials said.

Wildlife wardens found the wild elephant calf, aged approximately four to five months, roaming in a private estate after being separated from its mother and the herd in India's Anamali Tiger Reserve on December 29.

The forest officials rescued the calf and deployed drones and a search party to locate its herd. Before releasing the baby elephant to the herd, the officials washed and smeared mud on the calf to rid it of human scent.

Drone images taken by officials on Tuesday captured the scene of the reunited pair lying down together and the baby snuggling to its mother.
