Having played guitar professionally and teaching guitar for nearly 50 years I have learned that simplifying the fretboard accomplishes more than memorizing numerous complex patterns and scale types. This guitar lesson covers the famous Comfortably Numb guitar solo by Pink Floyd guitarist, David Gilmour. This guitar lesson goes over the importance of knowing your basic chord forms over the entirety of the guitar neck, and applying those forms so can can find the target notes "chord tones" in your soloing or guitar compositions.

In order to play melodic guitar solos you need to use melodic notes on the guitar. Those notes are generally "chord tones" and Comfortably Numb has very nice chord changes and progressions to play beautiful guitar melody lines over. This guitar lesson will hopefully help you learn how to find the chord tones and associated musical scales so you can improvise guitar solos over any guitar chord progression. Whether you are playing pentatonic scales, major or minor scales, or learning the modes... chord tones as target notes will help you learn how to play guitar!

I have many guitar cover videos by some of your favorite classic rock guitar players. I hope you will like my classic rock covers from songs of the late 1960's into the 70’s and 80’s. On Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd I used my "parts-caster" stratocaster with lace sensor pickups. I believe David Gilmour used lace sensor pickups on Comfortably Numb. I ran it through my Boss GT-1000.

A lot of the British guitar players from the 1960's and 70's used a "treble booster" going into a Marshall Stack or Vox AC 30. I believe David Gilmour used a fuzz face on this guitar solo..
