A Winter Without "gods"

The intention of this video is not to discourage anyone from celebrating a secular non-religious Christmas. It is specifically relevant for those who no longer follow the deities associated with winter and Christmas festivities.
The essence of this short film is inspired by a lesser-known biblical (Torah) account of the origin and development of winter celebrations. Our aspiration is for you to be entertained and inspired, while also gaining ideas on how you and your family can continue enjoying long-held traditions or create new ones throughout the winter season.

BIBLICAL ACCOUNT OF THE WINTER SOLSTICE & SUBSEQUENT FESTIVITIES
Imagine being one of the first human beings on planet earth and encountering winter for the very first time. It must have been quite a daunting experience.

The midrash (Torah story) of Adam's initial encounter with winter explains that, when Adam HaRishon (Adam, the first human) observed the gradual shortening of the day, he expressed, ‘Oh no! Perhaps due to my sins, the world around me is being enveloped in darkness and returning to its state of chaos and confusion; thus, this must be the form of death to which I have been sentenced from Heaven!’ Consequently, he began observing an eight-day fast. However, when he witnessed the winter solstice and noticed the day gradually lengthening, he realized, ‘This is the natural cycle of the world’, and he initiated an eight-day celebration. In the following year, he designated both as festivals. He intended them for the sake of Heaven, but the [unenlightened] designated them for the purpose of star worship. ~ Avoda Zara 8a:7-8

Adam felt relieved to discover that the cold and dark days of his first winter were merely a temporary season. His joy in finding out that there would be increasing light amidst the darkness gave him cause for celebration. However, as time passed, future generations began to corrupt his celebratory tradition and associate it with the worship of "gods". After realizing this and uncovering other facts about the ancient origins of certain winter festivities, you may feel compelled to discard all winter traditions. Nonetheless, you can ethically maintain non-idolatrous traditions while releasing man-made concepts about winter gods.
