Former AG Bill Barr Warns Against Trump's Reelection, Fears "Retribution Presidency

Former Attorney General Bill Barr has expressed concerns about the possibility of former President Donald Trump's reelection in 2024. In an interview with Fox News on Saturday, Barr cautioned that a second term for Trump could lead to a "retribution presidency" and be unproductive due to his governance style.

Barr, who served in the Trump administration from 2019 to 2020, has become a vocal critic of the former president since leaving office. During the interview, he voiced his worries about Trump's approach, stating, "I don’t think he’s going to move the country forward. His style of governance, his continuing to pander to anger and frustration versus a constructive approach to solving our problems, is going to be chaotic and not accomplish very much. He’ll be a lame duck president."

When asked about advice for a potential new attorney general in a second Trump administration, Barr emphasized the importance of challenging Trump if necessary, especially in cases of possible "abuse of government power." He stated, "He has to be ready to say no and to resign. Trump needs people around him who will push back and help keep him on the straight and narrow."

Expressing his support for other Republican candidates in the 2024 GOP nomination, Barr mentioned former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley as someone who could beat President Biden and unite the country. He highlighted polling data that showed alternative candidates, like Haley, with substantial leads over Biden.
