Wearing a halo to protect his broken neck, David Pollack visits kids at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and offers encouragement. Pollack broke his neck – specifically, his C-6 vertebra – tackling Browns running back Reuben Droughns on Sept. 17, 2006 at PBS. Pollack wore a halo for three months but had no injury to his spine. A Bengals doctor originally said Pollack might be able to play again, but Pollack missed the 2007 season and officially retired in April 2008 even though doctors had cleated him to play. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Pollack told him he “was not completely comfortable medically.”
