Chennai, India witnessed the bizarre sight of countless tiny, spiky bois washing up on the sand, after flooding and an industrial oil spill. Blue button jellyfish and blue sea dragons washed ashore in their hundreds, according to a local environmentalist, who says some were alive, but most had washed up dead.

While strange, this is not a unique occurrence. Disruption to the sea bed means creatures do become displaced once in a while, and blue sea dragons in particular have been sighted before.

While undoubtedly interesting and cute, locals have been warned not to touch the arrivals. Contact with a sea dragon can cause a painful rash, while jellyfish are, well, jellyfish.
