Biden admin has threatened to punish SA for agreeing to cutting oil production by 2m/b/d. But The decision was not SA’s alone, but rather jointly announced by OPEC+ including Russia & Venezuela. For SA, which has long relied on U.S. military support through “energy for security,” this underscores SA’s new confidence that it can shake off U.S. pressure and act in line with its own commercial and diplomatic interests.
The alarm clock is set for a wakeup call to truly place this relationship under the microscope of reality which is leading to the conclusion that even long-lasting relationships will eventually come to an end, sooner or later.
