Is the word apostasia in 2 Thess. 2:3 a reference to apostasy in the last days or a reference to the departure of the church in the rapture? This video presents evidence that is largely overlooked in this conversation—the Jewish usage of apostasia in the Septuagint and religious writings (1 Maccabees and Jubilees). The Jewish NT derived much of its theological, moral, and prophetic terminology from these sources. It is hard to imagine a serious Jewish disciple in the 1st century reading about the apostasia and the antichrist in 2 Thessalonians 2 and not connecting these two with Nimrod and the tower of Babel in Jubilees and with Antiochus Epiphanes and his abomination of desolation in 1 Maccabees and Daniel 11. Both of these evil beasts were types of the antichrist. The former presenting a unified world in rebellion against God. The latter presenting the worship of images in the temple.
