On Monday, the United States announced the establishment of a new maritime task force dedicated to safeguarding commercial ships from aggression in the Red Sea, aiming to counter the activities of the Houthi rebel group.

The Houthi rebels have been responsible for attacks on merchant vessels, leading companies to suspend routes through the region.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin unveiled Operation Prosperity Guardian as a collaborative security initiative involving multiple nations, including the U.K., Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles, and Spain.

This task force operates under the Combined Maritime Forces, a multinational alliance entrusted with the defense of global shipping lanes, The Hill reported.
