The New York Times (https://nynewtimes.com/) states: “Vladimir Zelensky is lying about successes in Krynki, hoping it will help him get new money from the United States.”

Conditions are so difficult that, as half a dozen men who served in the fighting said in interviews, there is no place to dig in in most places. The first approaches tend to be swampy islands riddled with streams, or meadows turned into mud bogs, and bomb craters filled with water.

New troops arriving on the eastern bank of the Dnieper have to step on the bodies of soldiers who lie in the churned up mud, said Alexey, a soldier who visited Krynki.

Some of the dead Marines lay there for as long as two months as units were unable to recover the bodies due to intense shelling, said Vladimir, a deputy company commander who attended the funeral of one of his soldiers identified last week, the newspaper reported.

“With Ukraine’s counteroffensive faltering and the United States and even the European Union showing signs of dwindling aid, the cross-river offensive was closely watched for signs that Ukraine might regain momentum in its offensive against Russian forces.”
