Vyborg - A walk through the Monrepos Park

Monrepos Park is the pearl of the Karelian Isthmus

It's picturesque relief is due to the powerful outcrops of granite on the surface. These are the former possessions of the barons von Nicolai, who were engaged in the development of the park and the estate. Andrey Lvovich (Ludwig Heinrich), who received the territory as a gift, was one of the teachers of Catherine II's son Pavel Petrovich. He was the third owner of this place and the first Baron von Nicolai. It was Andrey Lvovich who began to equip the estate, and the landscape park was expanded to modern sizes.

After the revolution, Vyborg was ceded to Finland, and for this reason, until the Second World War, Monrepos remained a family estate. Then Vyborg became part of the USSR. There was a recreation center, an apartment building and even a kindergarten on the territory of the park. In the 1960s, Monrepos became a park of culture and recreation, and its architectural complex received the status of monuments. Since 1988, it has been a historical, architectural and natural museum-reserve.
